Our Mission: The Meeker Area Food Shelf is a cooperative venture of community partners working to provide access to healthy food for those facing food insecurity.
Our Vision: Every person in the Meeker area has access to nutritious, culturally appropriate foods that allows them to live a healthy life while removing the stigma of needing assistance.
The Meeker Area food shelf opened on August 22nd, 1983 as the community's response to an elevated unemployment rate, which was 16% higher than the national average. In 2009, the Dassel Area Food Shelf opened, as a satellite site, as the community's response to growing food insecurity in the area. In recent years, both of our sites have been transformed into certified SuperShelves. In 2017, we partnered with the Dassel Elementary School and the Dassel-Cokato Middle School and launched the Power Up Snack Pack Program which provides snack food for students on weekends and holiday breaks. We recently launched our Mobile Food Shelf Program which brings food to those in need within Meeker County.
The Meeker Area Food Shelf is an equal opportunity provider and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, gender, gender expression, age, national origin, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
